I’m a daily user of the iPhone and it features pretty decent predictive text. Long before that I was a user of a variety of other mobile phones, which featured T9 and even XT9. If you’re not familiar with T9 and XT9, they are predictive text solutions offered by Nuance. T9 allows you to easily type out words on traditional 12-key phone pads, while XT9 enhances the text typing experience on QWERTY keyboards and touchscreen phones.

If you’re wondering how much better the XT9 experience is compared to just typing on a QWERTY keyboard or touch screen, check out the video below produced by Nuance. The video shows XT9 in action on the Nokia E71, which features a QWERTY keyboard.

As a user of XT9, it was interesting to see Regional Error Correction in action. Apparently, Nuance calls it “sloppy type” since it allows you to hit all of the keys next to the ones that you meant to hit, and still spits out the word you meant to type.
